What is ECU remapping / chip tuning?
ECU remapping (also called chip tuning) is the process of modifying the software inside your vehicle's Engine Control Unit (ECU). The factory settings are deliberately conservative to account for poor fuel quality, servicing variation and emissions regulations across many markets. Remapping adjusts parameters such as fuel injection timing, boost pressure, fuel maps and torque limiters to extract the engine's real potential.
How much power gain can I expect from a Stage 1 remap?
It depends on the engine. Modern turbodiesel engines typically gain 25–40 HP and 60–100 Nm from a Stage 1 remap. Turbopetrol engines gain 15–30 HP. Naturally aspirated petrol engines gain less — usually 5–10%. Use our Vehicle Database on the homepage to look up your specific vehicle's expected gains.
Is ECU remapping safe for my engine?
Yes, when done correctly. We never push engines beyond their mechanical limits. Our maps are developed within safe parameters for temperature, pressure and fuel delivery. We do not use generic maps — every file is tailored to your ECU. The result is a safer, smoother running engine, not a stressed one.
What is DPF off and why would I need it?
The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) captures soot from diesel exhaust. Over time, especially on short journeys, it blocks and triggers limp mode or warning lights. DPF replacement costs can be very high. We remove the DPF function from the ECU software so the engine no longer monitors or regenerates the filter, eliminating the problem permanently at software level.
What is EGR off?
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve recirculates exhaust gases back into the intake to reduce NOx emissions. Over time it deposits carbon into the intake manifold and causes performance and reliability issues. We disable EGR operation in the ECU software — the valve stays closed and the engine breathes clean air only.
What is AdBlue off / SCR off?
AdBlue (DEF) is a urea solution injected into the exhaust of Euro 5 and Euro 6 diesel vehicles to reduce NOx. When the AdBlue pump, sensor or injector fails, the vehicle will count down to a no-start condition. We remove the AdBlue requirement from the ECU — the engine will start and run normally without needing AdBlue, with no warning lights.
How does the online file service work?
Register at files.autoshkodra.com, read your ECU file using your own tool (KESS, KTAG, FLEX etc.), upload the original file to our portal, select the tuning options you need, and your tuned file will be ready to download within 1 hour. You then write the file back to the vehicle with your own tool.
I don't have a flashing tool — can you still help me?
Yes. Bring your vehicle to one of our garages in Shkodër and our technicians will read, remap and write the ECU for you using our professional tools. No flashing tool needed on your side.
Will the remap be detected by a main dealer?
Most remaps can be detected by a main dealer using specialist tools if they look for them. This is a consideration if your vehicle is under warranty. We can discuss specific situations on request.
What vehicles do you support?
We support cars, vans, trucks, agricultural machinery and marine engines. Use the Vehicle Database on our homepage to search your specific make, model and engine. If you don't find it there, contact us directly and we'll check coverage.
Where are you located?
AutoShkodra operates two garages in Shkodër, Albania. We also offer remote diagnostics and the online file service for customers who cannot visit in person.
How do I pay for credits on the file portal?
Contact us directly via phone or email to arrange credit purchase. Bank transfer is the primary payment method. Credits are added to your portal account immediately upon confirmation.
